I crossed over the metal fence going toward the logging operation right next to where you park for this fall. The fungus were all over some fallen logs just a little ways up the logging road. You really have to search to find these colonies.
Whoa! That's an awesome formation of shrooms. I've never seen them stacked up like that, and I spend a lot of time in the woods.
I wouldn't have guessed this was an HDR if you hadn't mentioned it. It looks nice & natural. Seven exposures seems like a lot though. I'm guessing you could get similar results by processing just one raw exposure in photoshop.
Thanks, Mike. For some reason, I've been lucky enough to stumble upon a large colony of fungus the past two autumns.
I really try to make my HDR photos look natural. Processing them in another program once you are done with them in Photomatix is always a good idea. Seven exposures probably was a bit more than I needed. If you take a look at the photo again you will notice that there is a dark area just below where the mushrooms were coming out of the log. My aim with the seven bracketed exposures was to get some light in that area so that I didn't have this large dark void in my photo. Turns out that I cropped out most of the void in post anyway. The shot still looked really good so I used it.
